The extended display of the Watch Series 4 is one of its selling points. It features reduced bezels with an edge-to-edge display. While the Watch Series 3 features thicker bezels. The Watch Series 4 is lighter with a weight of 48 grams. Whereas the Watch Series 3 weighs 52.8 grams. The build of the Watch Series 4 is different thanks to the sapphire crystal mashed with the ceramic back. While on the Watch Series 3, the back is built with ceramic only.
The display of Watch Series 3 is an AMOLED touchscreen measuring 1.65 inches with 390 x 312 pixels and PPI density. Meanwhile the Watch Series 4 features a bigger 1.78 inches touchscreen. It also a better resolution of 448 x 368 pixels and 326 PPI density.

The big upgrades are the electric heart sensor, ECG app and atrial fibrillation, which can run all types of heart-related tests for us. This feature automatically dials emergency services number if you fall and remain motionless for up to a minute after falling. The Watch Series 4 can also tell when you have an irregular heartbeat.
The Watch Series 3 features the old S3 chipset which is good but not quite as fast as the S4 chipset found inside the Watch Series 4. Apple’s assistant Siri responds faster on Watch Series 4 than Watch Series 3. Generally, apps on the Watch Series 4 responds quicker.

The Apple Watch Series 3 runs on watchOS 4.0 operating system. While the Watch Series 4 runs on the latest watchOS 5.0.
There is no real difference in battery life between Watch Series 4 and Watch Series 3. Both can last up to 18-20 hours. This is still poor when compared to competitors from another brand that can last up to 2-3 days on a single charge.
The 42 mm Watch Series 3 cost about $425. While the 44 mm Watch Series 4 cost around $645.
The Watch Series 4 comes with the latest software, a better processor, bigger display and overall high performing health & fitness apps. We think all these is worth the extra $220 on the Watch Series 4.
