The Kirin 659 was manufactured by the outdated 16nm FinFET technology. Whereas, the Kirin is manufactured by 12nm FinFET technology. Despite the process technology used the Kirin 710 being advanced than that of the Kirin 659, it’s still not the latest. Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 was manufactured by a 10nm FinFET technology.

The main difference here is the multi-core processor. Both the Kirin 710 and 659 chipset features the same single-core processor with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. Whereas, their multi-core processor is quite different. In multi-core, the Kirin 710 features four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. While the Kirin 659 packs four Cortex-A53 cores, which clocks at 2.36GHz. The Cortex-A73 is a more premium core than the Cortex-A53.

The Hisilicon Kirin 659 features Mali-T830 MP2 graphics processing unit. While the Kirin 710 comes with a Mali-G51 MP4 graphics processing unit. According to sources, the Kirin 710 GPU is 1.3 times faster than the GPU of the Kirin 659. It’s also more energy efficient. Huawei also agrees on the GPU of the Kirin 710 being more superior. They said the Mali-G51 MP4 GPU is much powerful than the Mali-T830 MP2 GPU by 130%.

Through an official statement by Huawei; the single-core processor of the Kirin 710 is 75% higher than that of the Kirin 659. While the multi-core processor of the Kirin 710 is 68% higher than the Kirin 659 chipset.
According to Geekbench, the Kirin 710 did outperform the Kirin 650 in single-core and multi-core tests. The Kirin 710 scored 5,521 points in the multi-core test and 1,557 points in the single-core test. While the Kirin 659 comes with 3,717 points in the multi-core test and 928 points in the single-core test.
The Huawei Nova 3i (powered by Kirin 710) scored 1,601 points in the single-core test and 5,457 points in the multi-core test. Whereas, the Huawei P20 Lite (powered by Kirin 659) scored 927 points in the single-core test and 3,690 points in the multi-core test.
Moving over to the AnTuTu Benchmark test. The test result shows Kirin 710 with 138,583 points. While the Kirin 659 got 87,573 points.
