Linux vs Windows has been a comparison battle that’s been around for more than 2 decades now. The two operating systems are the frontrunners for IT professionals in today’s world. People have argued about which one is actually better and stuff like that. Well, in this article we’ll be showing areas where both operating systems have advantages and disadvantages. Nothing is perfect in this world, especially not Linux and Windows.

Windows is developed and distributed by Microsoft. While Linux is an open source operating system. This means Microsoft is handles everything concerning Windows. Whereas in Linux it’s more of the collective effort of individuals through sharing and collaboration of features and codes. Linux is being distributed by numerous vendors.

Microsoft has the highest number of desktop users due to its popularity. So a software or hardware manufacturer will always make sure their product is compatible with the Windows operating system. While manufacturers also give support to the Linux operating system. But not as much as they do for Windows.

Linux being an open source system means its source code is open for the general public to review at any given time. This makes it easier to spot any vulnerability within the system. While Windows isn’t open source. So the general public can’t tell when there’s a vulnerability. Also, windows being the most popular operating system, criminals target the system with hope to exploit novice windows users.

Ease of Use

Windows operating system is one of the easiest to use for a novice. One of the main advantages of Windows is its user-friendliness and simplicity. While the average/novice user will find the Linux operating system a lot more complicated to understand. Linux is for the more proficient and professional users. Whereas Windows is for an average or novice user.

Linux is used by various big brands such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, NASA e.t.c to power their servers and development machines. The operating system is used by academic, scientific and corporate organizations. While Windows is mostly used by gamers, novice and business owners that rely on Windows’s software for various office tasks.
