by Team TC

OnePlus 7 VS OnePlus 6T – OnePlus has launched their 2019 flagship killer; the OnePlus 7. And this time around it comes with a senior sibling called the OnePlus 7 Pro. The OnePlus 7 succeeds the OnePlus 6T, which was released late last year. In this article, we will compare both smartphones a figure out if the OnePlus 7 is a worthy upgrade or not.

OnePlus 7 VS OnePlus 6T – Design

The design doesn’t show much of a difference. The new OnePlus 7 features a waterdrop notch display we saw on last year’s OnePlus 6T. At the back of both devices is a dual camera module with Dual-LED flash aligned virtually the same way. They both have under the display fingerprint reader.

The OnePlus 7 is slightly lighter than the OnePlus 6T. It weighs 182 grams while the OnePlus 6T weighs 185 grams. However, they both have the same thickness of 8.2 mm. The OnePlus 6T is available in Thunder Purple, Mirror Black and Midnight Black colours. While the OnePlus 7 comes in only Mirror Grey and Red body colours.

OnePlus 7 VS OnePlus 6T – Display

You won’t notice any difference in the display of both smartphones and that’s because there is none. Both the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6T features a 6.41 inches Optic AMOLED touchscreen with 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 402 PPI density and DCI-P3.

Camera

This is where you start feeling the difference between both smartphones. Even though they feature a dual rear camera system, the specs are quite different. On the OnePlus 7 is a combination of 48 MP f/1.7 main sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor. Whereas on the OnePlus 6T is a 16MP f/1.7 wide-angle sensor paired with a 20MP f/1.7 wide-angle sensor. Unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro, the OnePlus 7 doesn’t feature pop-up selfie camera. Its selfie camera is the same as the OnePlus 6T. The camera is housed in the waterdrop notch and features a 16 MP wide-angle sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

Hardware

Being the newer device plays in favour of the OnePlus 7 as it gets to feature new hardware. It comes with the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC with Adreno 640 GPU. While the OnePlus 6T features the old Snapdragon 845 SoC with Adreno 630 GPU. This alone is enough for some users to upgrade. But that doesn’t mean that the Snapdragon 845 powered OnePlus 6T can’t handle big tasks, especially in gaming and graphics.

Another change is the type of storage which helps in overall performance. The OnePlus 7 comes with the latest UFS 3.0 storage. Whereas, the OnePlus 6T has UFS 2.1 storage. There is no difference in memory as they both have 6 GB or 8 GB RAM variant along with 128 GB or 256 GB storage.

Software

The operating system of both smartphones is the same cause the OnePlus 6T now runs on Android 9.0 Pie with the latest OxygenOS skin. The only difference is the OnePlus 7 runs on Android Pie out of the box. While the OnePlus 6T requires to upgrade to run on Android Pie.

Battery

There is no difference in the battery department on paper. They both pack the same non-removable Li-Po 3700 mAh battery with 20W fast battery charging. In real life, there shouldn’t be any difference also, one cam expects both devices to last more than a day on normal usage.

Verdict

From this comparison, we can tell the OnePlus 7 is the better smartphone. The upgrades can be seen in the hardware and camera. While the design, display and battery are pretty the same things. The OnePlus 6T is cheaper than OnePlus 7 which is only normal but it doesn’t mean the OnePlus 7 isn’t better. If you feel the OnePlus 7 doesn’t give you much of an upgrade, be sure to check out the OnePlus 7 Pro.
