In this comparison article, we’ll be looking at the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus vs iPhone 11 Pro Max. Both smartphones are the Plus/Pro version of their company’s 2019 flagships. The Galaxy Note 10 Plus is the biggest device in the Samsung Note line. While the iPhone 11 Pro Max is the biggest in Apple’s iPhone line. These premium devices are meant for people who don’t mind the exhorbiant price tag it comes with.

Design

Design is total different here despite the fact that they both feature front and back glass. The frame of the Galaxy Note 10 Plus is aluminium while that of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is stainless steel. The Galaxy Note 10 Plus features a punch-hole display with the hole located at the top middle. Whereas, the iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with a rather bunky notch. The iPhone is heavier and thicker with 226 grams and 8.1 mm thick. While the Galaxy Note 10 Plus weighs 196 grams and measures 7.9 mm in thickness. Both device has IP68 dust/water resistant rating which means they can be submerged into 1.5m depth of water for 30 minutes.

Display

The iPhone 11 Pro Max features a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. The display features 1242 x 2688 pixels resolution, 800 nits max brightness, Dolby Vision, HDR10, Wide color gamut, True-tone and 120Hz touch-sensing. The Galaxy Note 10 Plus, on the other hand, features a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display. Its display features 1440 x 3040 pixels resolution, HDR10+ and Always-on display.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with three 12MP cameras at the back. The main camera features a f/1.8 aperture, wide lens, dual pixel PDAF and OIS. The secondary camera features a f/2.0 aperture, telephoto lens, PDAF, OIS, and 2x optical zoom. And the third camera features a f/2.4 aperture and ultrawide lens. For the Galaxy Note 10 Plus, it has four cameras at the back. The main camera is a 12MP sensor with a dual aperture of f/1.5-2.4, wide lens, dual pixel PDAF and OIS. The second camera is another 12MP sensor with f/2.1 aperture, telephoto lens, PDAF, OIS and 2x optical zoom. The third camera is a 16MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture, ultrawide lens and Super Steady video. The fourth camera which is apart from the first three is a TOF 3D VGA camera.

For selfies, the iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with a two cameras; a 12MP f/2.2 and SL 3D camera. While the Galaxy Note 10 Plus features a 10MP f/2.2 camera. The front and back cameras on both smartphones can record videos in 4K resolution.

Hardware and Software

The Galaxy Note 10 Plus is powered by either a Snapdragon 855 chipset or Exynos 9825 chipset. The one you get depends on the market. For the iPhone 11 Pro Max, it is powered by arguably the best smartphone chipset right now – A13 Bionic chip. Memory options for the Galaxy Note 10 Plus is 12/256GB and 12/512GB. While for the iPhone 11 Pro Max is 4/64GB, 4/256GB and 4/512GB. The Galaxy Note 10 Plus runs on Android 9 Pie with Samsung’s One UI. While the iPhone 11 Pro Max runs on iOS 13 which can be updated to iOS 13.2.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 4300 mAh battery and uses 45W fast charging. It supports USB Power Delivery 3.0 charging, 15W Qi/PMA wireless charging and 9W Power bank/Reverse charging. While the iPhone 11 Pro Max features a non-removable Li-Ion 3969 mAh battery and uses 18W fast charging. No reverse charging for the iPhone 11 Pro Max, it does support Qi wireless charging and Power Delivery 2.0.

Price & Verdict

The 12/256GB of the Galaxy Note 10 Plus retails for $999/INR79,999 while the 12/512GB goes for INR89,999. The 4/64GB of the iPhone 11 Pro Max costs $1,563/INR109,900 and INR123,900 for the 4/256GB. In the US market, the iPhone 11 Pro Max (64GB) retails for $1,069, 256GB for $1,214 and 512GB for $1,829. Both are expensive smartphones, so it boils down to preference. The iPhone 11 Pro Max has the best hardware and will be my pick here.
