How to enable end-to-end encryption on Facebook Messenger – Facebook has joined other messaging platforms by offering end-to-end encryption for its messaging app. With cybersecurity a major concern in the internet today, people are wary of the kind of information they put out there.
End-to-end encryption is a very good security measure to ensure our conversation with friends and family don’t get hacked or intercepted by a third party. This encryption means only the sender and the intending recipient can read the message. With the high-level threat the internet space is facing daily, it’s always good to secure the kind of information you put out there. Always remember that information is power and privacy is very important.
How to enable end-to-end encryption on Facebook Messenger – Steps to follow
Note: This end-to-end encryption on the Facebook messenger is known as “Secret Conversation”.
- Open the Facebook messenger app and click on a chat conversation.
- Click on the circle with an “i” sign at the top left side of the screen.
- From the Settings menu, click on “Secret Conversation”.
- A pop-up question reading “Turn on Secret Conversation?”. Click on “Turn On”, and you’re ready to go. Your chat is now using end-to-end encryption.
Unlike WhatsApp that comes with pre-installed end-to-end encryption on all chats and messages. The downside about this encryption is that you need to turn it on for every conversation you want encryption to work. Once you’ve turned on a secret conversation, it can’t be turned off. You’ll need to delete that conversation and then start a new one. The Secret Conversation feature is not available for group messages. But we do believe Facebook is working towards it.
