Asus ZenFone 6 Review, Specs, Features and Price

by Obodoakor Moses

Asus ZenFone 6Asus is one of the leading players when it comes to high-end laptops. But that isn’t the case in the smartphone market. Their newly released ZenFone 6 will look to start a revolution for the company. The device comes with high-end specs like most Huawei, Samsung and Apple phones. But to make it more interesting to buyers, Asus makes it cheaper, more like a flagship killer as we have seen with the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9. Let’s see what the new ZenFone smartphone have in stock for us.

Asus ZenFone 6 Design

The ZenFone 6 features an all-screen display at the front and it was able to achieve that with the help of a flipping camera module at the back. The phone is built with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 at the front and back while the frame is built with aluminium. Most flagships have opted for the in-display fingerprint scanner, but not for the ZenFone 6, which sticks with the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Asus ZenFone 6 Display

We know Asus is trying to cut down the cost of this device. But you can possibly have an IPS LCD display panel for a flagship device in 2019. What happens to any type of LED display? Oh well, guess we will never know. The ZenFone 6 sports a 6.4 inches IPS LCD touchscreen with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display features 1080p resolution, 403 PPI density, DCI-P3 and HDR10.

Type: IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen

The most intriguing aspect of this device is its camera. The ZenFone 6 comes with a dual rear camera module. The module consists of a Sony IMX586 48MP sensor, which is designed to take 12 MP photos and a 13 MP ultrawide sensor. This camera module can record 4K videos at both 30fps and 60fps. There are other great features such as HDR, Panorama, Bokeh and Portrait modes.

This is where it gets interesting, the ZenFone 6 doesn’t have a selfie camera. But that doesn’t mean you won’t take selfie shots. When you switch the camera app into selfie mode, the rear camera module flips over to the front and ready to go. This is similar to what we saw on the Samsung Galaxy A80. The benefit of this mechanism is that your selfies will come out really good as it uses all the available features in the rear camera. And you get to shoot 4K selfie videos also. Anything you can do when taking photos with the rear camera can equally be done in selfies.

Asus has taken their foot off the gas in imposing their apps and features on Android OS. The new ZenUI 6 looks neat and very close to stock Android you would normally see in phones like the Google Pixel 3A. The ZenFone 6 runs on the ZenUI 6 which is based on Android 9.0 Pie. Though you can still expect some few Asus pre-installed apps on the device.

I won’t lie to you, am a huge fan of battery life in a smartphone. This is why am interested in this ZenFone 6 as it comes with a non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery capacity. A battery this huge of course requires fast charging. And that’s why the ZenFone 6 comes with Quick Charge 4.0 technology that should get you from 0% to 100% in less than 150 minutes. No wireless charging though, as Asus try to cut down the production cost of the device.
