The Huawei Mate X is the newest smartphone from Huawei. Huawei have joined Samsung in manufacturing a foldable smartphone. 2019 seems to be the year for foldable devices with several OEMs companies also stating they are working on their own version of the smartphone. Not only is the Mate X a foldable smartphone, but it also features the trending 5G network. Let’s take a look at this beauty from Huawei.
Huawei Mate X Design
The screen panel of the Huawei Mate X is outside. This looks like a bad move from Huawei, cause when folded you have the front and back all screen; and this can lead to scratching or something actually falling on the screen. This means your faith rests on whatever screen protection Huawei are using for this smartphone; Corning Gorilla glass or NEG.
When the Mate X is unfolded, it measures 161.3 x 146.2 x 5.4 mm in dimensions. Whereas, when it’s folded, it measures Folded: 161.3 x 78.3 x 11 mm in dimensions. The phone overall weighs 295 grams and it’s available in only Interstellar Blue body colour.

Huawei Mate X Display
Being a foldable smartphone means the Huawei Mate X features two displays. The unfolded display is actually two displays joined together and they aren’t equal. The big one is a 6.6 inches unit, which features a resolution of 2480 x 1148 pixels with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. And the small one is a 6.38 inches unit, which features a resolution of 2480 x 892 pixels with a 25:9 aspect ratio.
These two displays are combined together to give you an 8.0 inches AMOLED touchscreen with an 86.9% screen-to-body ratio. The display features 2200 x 2480 pixels, 414 PPI density and 8:7.1 aspect ratio. While when the device is folded, the display is a 6.6 inches AMOLED touchscreen. The display resolution is 1148 x 2480 pixels with 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

There is no much info out there for the Huawei Mate X. But from what we know so far, it doesn’t feature a front/selfie camera. This is bad news for our Instagram selfie lovers lol. However, the rear camera features a Quad camera system. The main camera features a 40 MP wide sensor with f/1.7 aperture and PDAF. The secondary camera features a 16 MP ultrawide sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The third camera features an 8MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. And the last camera is a TOF (Time of Flight) camera.
Wouldn’t it be okay if Huawei moved one camera to the front instead? Let us know what you think about this weird decision by Huawei in the comment section.
Quad: 40 MP, f/1.8, 27mm (wide), 1/1.7″, PDAF + 16 MP, f/2.2, 17mm (ultrawide) + 8 MP, f/2.4, 52mm (telephoto) + TOF camera

Powering the Huawei Mate X is an 8-cores HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset with a Balong 5000 5G modem. The Balong 5000 5G modem is responsible for the 5G feature in the smartphone. It can reach a speed limit of 4.6Gbps, which beats the 2.4Gbps speed limit of competitors (Qualcomm’s X50 and Exynos 5100). You can literally download 1 GB movie under ten seconds.
The Mate X comes with an 8 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. The device allows for additional storage up to 256 GB through the SIM 2 slot. But the slot doesn’t support the regular microSD, it rather supports the Nano microSD.
