Infinix Smart 2 Review: Affordable smartphone with Face Unlock

The Infinix Smart 2 despite being a budget smartphone comes with some of the trending features in the market right now. The phone features both a fingerprint sensor and face unlock system for biometric security. There is a 5.5 inches infinity HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Battery life shouldn’t be a problem as the Smart 2 comes with a non-removable Li-Po 3050 mAh battery.

Infinix Mobility is back with a successor to last year’s Infinix Smart. The new Smart 2 has arrived in Pakistan and is due to enter the African market soon. Unlike last year, the Smart 2 comes with a bigger variant; the Smart 2 Pro. The phone maker has been quite busy in the first half of the year with the release of the Infinix Hot S3, Hot 6, Hot 6 Pro and Note 5. But has now shifted their focus to the budget-friendly Smart-series.

Infinix Smart 2 Design

The design of the Smart 2 is basic and similar to the Infinix Smart. The phone features a front glass with plastic unibody, which has a metallic texture feeling. At the bottom back, is a loudspeaker for better quality sounds.

The Smart 2 measures 8.4 mm in thickness with a weight of 148 grams. The device is available in Red, Blue, Black and Rose Gold body colours. The Smart 2 comes in two variants, the smaller variant has no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, unlike the bigger variant.

Display

The Smart 2 packs a 5.5 inches HD+ IPS LCD panel, which is bigger than that of its predecessor. The screen of the Smart 2 stretches up to 79% screen-to-body ratio. Aside from the bigger screen size, it also features an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The display houses a 720 x 1440 pixels resolution with 282 pixels per inch density.

Camera

The camera specs have been upgraded from last year’s Infinix Smart. The Smart 2 is equipped with a 13MP rear camera, which features a bokeh effect and a dual-LED flash. Up front, is an 8MP selfie shooter, which also features a dual-LED flash. The selfie shooter takes care of the facial unlock feature. Considering, the Infinix Smart features an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, this is impressive from the Infinix Smart 2.

Hardware

Underneath the Smart 2 MediaTek MT6739 chipset with PowerVR GE8100 graphics processing unit. The MT6739 chip comes with a Quad-core Cortex A-53 processor, which clocks at 1.5GHz. The hardware of the Smart 2 is an upgrade to that of the Infinix Smart. The Smart 2 comes in two variants; the 1 GB and 2 GB memory. Both memories have a 16GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD slot. The 1 GB variant of the Smart 2 has no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. While the 2 GB variant features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Software

The Infinix phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with XOS 3.3 user interface. The 1GB variant runs on the Go edition and will come with pre-installed lite versions of Google’s Mobile Services such as YouTube Go, Gmail Go, Search Go and so on. While the 2GB variant runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with XOS 3.3 skin.

Battery

The Smart 2 houses a non-removable Li-Po 3050 mAh battery. According to Infinix, it should last more than 24 hours on normal usage. The battery life is pretty much the same as on the Smart 2. And there’s no fast battery charging support on here.

The price of the Smart 2 is $99.56, which is decent enough for its offerings. If you’re in Nigeria, this translates to about 38,000 naira.
