Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is the 8th generation flagship of the annual Galaxy Note series. The numbers don’t add up cause Samsung skipped the number 6. The new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with features upgrade from its predecessor (Note 8). But there are still some similarities between the two smartphones. Let’s see what the Galaxy Note 9 has in stock for us.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Design

The Note series is always known to be a large smartphone with premium design. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features a Corning gorilla glass 5 at the front and back with the frame covered in aluminium. Note 9 weighs 201 grams and measures 8.8 mm in thickness. The phablet can last up to 30 minutes underwater of 1.5 metres depth with IP68 waterproof protection.

The Samsung Note 9 features an S-pen (Bluetooth integration). Moving to the back, there is a fingerprint sensor and dual rear camera setup at the top centre. The Note 9 features amazing colour design to choose from such as Metallic Copper, Lavender Purple, Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Pure White and Alpine White.

Display

The Super AMOLED touchscreen featured on the Galaxy Note 9 comes with impressive colour contrast and good colour reproduction. The touchscreen measures at 6.4 inches with an 83.4% screen-to-body ratio and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The display features 1440 x 2960 pixels with 516 PPI density and its protected by Corning Gorilla glass.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features a dual rear camera setup – a 12 MP wide lens with dual f/1.5 & f/2.4 apertures, 1.4µm pixel size, dual pixel PDAF and OIS (optical image stabilization) – a 12 MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, AF, OIS and 2x optical zoom. The camera has a 103 score at popular camera rating company DxOMark.

In all smartphone’s selfie camera tested by DxOMark, the Galaxy Note 9 is number one with a score of 92. This is thanks to its 8MP selfie camera with wide lens, f/1.7 aperture, 1.22µm and AF. This selfie camera is capable of shooting video at 1440 pixels at 30 frames per second.

Hardware

The Galaxy Note 9 is available in two different chipsets. It’s a regional thing so you don’t get to choose which one you want. The Note 9 powered by Exynos 9810 chipset is available in EMEA (Europe, Middle-East & Africa) countries. Whereas, Note 9 powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset is available in USA, Latin America and China. Both chipsets offer similar performance required for high-end hardware.

The Snapdragon 845 chip features Adreno 630 graphics processing unit. While the Exynos 9810 chip features Mali-G72 MP18 graphics processing unit. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with a Water Carbon Cooling System for gaming and other high task jobs that will make the device hot.

RAM variants available on this tablet is 6GB and 8GB. Storage won’t be much of an issue here as the Note 9 has two big storage options of 128GB and 512GB. You can stretch the storage to 1TB when you buy the 512GB storage variant and make use of the microSD slot available up to 512GB. Note: the SIM 2 acts as the microSD slot.
