The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 is the second generation of Xiaomi’s gaming smartphone. Gaming on a smartphone is now the hottest trend in the gaming world. Xiaomi improved a lot on the design of their gaming smartphone. The majority will agree the Xiaomi Black Shark design wasn’t all that good. Well, the company made amends and gave us probably the best gaming smartphone in terms of design in the market right now. The Black Shark 2 features curved edges, incredibly thin bezels, no notch and looks quite like the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus from the front view. While at the back is a glass curve design around a metallic rectangle-like shape which houses the “Shark logo”.
The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 weighs a hefty 205 grams and dimensions of 163.6 x 75 x 8.8 mm. There is a dual rear camera at the top left corner with LED flash underneath. The Black Shark 2 sports a 6.39 inches touchscreen. The display type is AMOLED with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It features 1080 x 2340 pixels, 403 PPI density, Always-on display and 100% DCI-P3. The display is clear and exquisite to the eyes. In order to keep the cost of manufacturing the phone down, it features FHD rather than the Quad HD display most users would have preferred. The Black Shark 2 display features TrueClarity MEMC Technology processing, which helps in presenting smoother visuals. Other gaming display features include 43.5ms latency and Master Touch.

Despite not being a camera focused smartphone, the Black Shark 2 comes with a reputable camera setup. At the back is a dual camera setup featuring a 48 MP & 12 MP sensors. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 has better performance than its gaming smartphone competitors such as Razor Phone 2 and Asus ROG Phone. This is mainly because it’s powered by the new Snapdragon 855 SoC which features eight-cores of Kyro 485 processor and Adreno 640 GPU. The gaming smartphone scores 367,949 on AnTuTu benchmark test, 3517 on Geekbench 4 single-core test and 11,295 on Geekbench 4 multi-core test. Memory option available on this device is 6GB/128, 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB.
In order to main a good internet connection when gaming, the Black Shark 2 comes with an upgraded version of the company’s X-type Smart Antenna and also two more antennas on the sides. So you don’t have to worry about the poor connection affecting your gameplay.
The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 comes with an option of using two controllers similar to the Nintendo Switch’s JoyCons. These controllers come in handy especially when you playing first-person shooter games and the likes. The controllers can be connected to the smartphone by flicking the “on” switch and it automatically connects to the device via Bluetooth. The controllers come at an extra cost though.
